LA’s own Le Face makes in rain with sub 2 minute explosions like this one. If Le Face were a burger, they’d be animal style.

Even though they keep a lot of shit going on at once, Paris’ Schaatz seems to keep it classy by not overdoing it. It’s all about balance. I’m even feeling ‘Terminus’ despite the fact that it’s more than a little boring.
New archived show from Maceo over on the main site. 50 minutes of wet reverb and thick lo-fi jams.

Change of pace today. Oni Ayhun is Olof Dreijer aka the brother of Karin Dreijer (aka Fever Ray). When they performed together they were The Knife. Ya with me? Anyway, Oni Ayhun’s polished low key style is pretty drastically different to the grungy garage-rock that dominates the Hobo server, but I thought this 11 minute epic is interesting anyway. Check out Oni Ayhun here.
Cloud Nothings - Whaddya Wanna Know

Don’t know much about Cloud Nothings, but they’re doing something right. They balance out their Lo-Fi sounds with much lighter vocals than you’re used to hearing on these pages. Supposedly there will be a CD available soon from Bridgetown Records
More info and another tune @ NPIP
It isn’t really our style, but HoboFM is now represented in all four corners of the internet. Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Tumblr. Follow us using the method(s) of your choice, or go for all four if you really love us. We will love you back.
Brontez is back. Here we have our man from Younger Lovers reading excerpts from his Zine, “Fag School.” I like the part where the author describes the smell of buttholes as “refreshing,” but only at first. Books on tape on tube is nice, especially when served gay. See his music video montage here.

It’s a match made in HoboFM Heaven. Volar Records and I Hate Rock n Roll are putting together a tribute record to Lee, Case, and Collins of The Nerves, The Plimsouls, etc. Someone over there was amazing enough to tap “Gunk” MVP: Hunx and his Punx to rework The Nerves’ “When You Find Out”- Also known as the best Powerpop tune ever written. “Hanging on the Telephone” might have been a more fitting choice, since all Hunx’s tunes revolve around phones, but I digress. Our appreciation for everyone involved is well documented in our posts on Volar, Hunx, and The Nerves. The record won’t come out until February but the following covers have already been announced.
So Cow—Working Too Hard
Shark Toys—I Don’t Fit In
Le Face—Paper Dolls
Grass Widow—Walking Out on Love
Davila 666—Hanging on the Telephone
Ratas del Vaticano—Are You Famous?
Fresh & Onlys—Come Back and Stay
Hunx and his Punx—When You Find Out
The Mantles—A Million Miles Away
Go support Volar, and I Hate Rock N Roll. They obviously rule.
Trends in band names are pretty funny. “Crystal” was a big modifier for a while, Animal names were big in 2009, and 2010 is shaping up to be the year of the Ghost.
Ghostape, Former Ghosts, Gross Ghost, Ghost Driver, and That Ghost come to mind. Some of them are even decent.
